New Art Gallery Opening, Nowra NSW
Dr Gillian Rhys is the power behind the brand new art gallery in Nowra NSW – “Blue Horse Gallery”.
A once run down shed has been transformed into an accessible, centrally located art gallery, exhibition and workshop space. The owner of the premises wanted to develop an arts hub and approached Gillian for advice on making the vision a reality. With her wealth of experience and no fuss approach to any task, Gillian set about making it happen. This began in October 2015.
The Australian Cultural fund is a collective funding platform for Australian artists. Established in 2003 to encourage donations to the arts, it has helped raise millions of dollars for Australian artists allowing them to share their stories, passion, and creativity. Artists upload their project and invite art lovers and supporters to donate. Gillian organized the project and donations started to trickle in at first until finally the goal was reached and the art gallery became reality!
Finances for Blue Horse Art Gallery came through in December and the opening was last weekend. Gillian and her partner in life, Mark, converted the building from a rustic shed to a clean and spacious arts venue.
The official opening presented work by local artists Kurt Brereton , Deb Hargraves , Jonathon Wheeldon and Gillian Rhys. Warwick Keen and the Edgehogs provided original live music. Art lovers , artists and supporters filled the art gallery and the evening was a huge success.
