Today I had the pleasure of working with Richard Claremont Artist extraordinaire in his studio at Shellharbour. With six other devotees of Richard’s luscious painting , we reveled in the indulgence and freedom to lather and lay on thick impasto oil paint like never before.

I first discovered Richard Claremont Artist on Instagram. His colour combinations immediately caught my attention. Soft pink and washed out terracotta skies, pastel aqua and mauve rolling hills. The paint was not unlike gelato smeared over the surface such was it’s delectability.

 

 

Living close to Killalea State Park provides Richard Claremont Artist with his daily dose of inspiration. Unlimited compositions from the local area embellish his walls. My jaw literally dropped at the impact of so much luscious art in one place .

Morning tea on arrival and introductions taken care of we trekked Richard’s well-worn trail through the State Park. Today’s location was a point overlooking the lagoon and looking back towards Kiama.

 

 

The day was perfect weather wise.We gathered information, photos , and sketches.  Returning we were enthusiastic for a demonstration of Richard’s methods and secrets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We painted for an hour and a half to get our composition sorted. With wonderful smells enticing us from the kitchen we sat down to an indulgent 3 course lunch with champagne and wonderful conversation.

Richard and his wife Kerrie are an amazing team. They looked after our every need both in the studio and our sustenance, which we absolutely required for an afternoon of furious painting.

So furious that most of us completed 3 paintings in 2 hours. Lots of one on one conversations as we were painting only inspired us to jump further and further outside our comfort zones.

I came away from today so exhilarated.  I was inspired to start posting on my blog again which I have neglected for the last 2 years.
